The weather has shifted a bit of late. It’s a lot more, well, wet! With forecasts showing continued showery spells and wet weather, it can be tricky to keep up with your exercise routine at this time of year. The evenings are darker and all you really feel like doing is snuggling up on the sofa when you get home from work. To top it off, comforting wintery food keeps calling your name (despite leaving you feeling heavy and a little bloated).

Don’t fear. I’m going to share my Top 5 Tips for Staying Fit in Winter  with you!

1. Phone a Friend

Find someone to hold you accountable. Everyone has at least one friend that wants to keep healthy as well. Having the on side to keep you focussed is invaluable! Schedule workouts with them, sign up to a class together, set goals for the winter months and regularly review your progress together. When your motivation is waning on a dark winter’s night, a quick text of “I hope you’ve completed your workout this evening – you’ll feel so much better for it afterwards!” can be exactly the prompt you need to get. it. done.

2. From the Comfort of Your Own Home

Lacking any snazzy equipment? No gym membership to use? Too dark to get outside? There are countless ways of getting a good workout in, in the comfort of your own home! From exercise DVDs to bodyweight workouts using only the sofa or a chair, as long as you have a little floor space and friendly neighbours who don’t mind a bit of noise, then you’re ready and set! All that’s left is for you to GO!

3. Treat Yourself!

There is nothing more motivating for me than new workout gear. I love it! You can find all sorts of beautiful exercise attire from high street stores to specialist workout brands. It doesn’t have to cost a small fortune either – check out your nearest clothes selling supermarket for a more affordable range!

4. Do What You LOVE!

The biggest key to keeping consistent with your exercise routine over the winter months? Find something you LOVE to do. Take the “work” out of workout. When something feels like a chore, you’re less likely to stick to it when the going gets tough!

5. Get Creative in the Kitchen

There are so many ways available to make those wintery culinary favourites a little healthier. It’s time to get creative in the kitchen and discover that healthy IS delicious! Our cauliflower rice is the perfect example of an easy switch up that immediately improves the nutritional density of your dinner!

Take heed of these 5 top tips and you’re well on your way to staying fit this winter!
